Kyoto shoshidai

• Japanese: 京都所司代 (Kyouto shoshidai)

During the Edo period, Kyoto was one of a number of cities administered by the Tokugawa shogunate, and not as part of a daimyô's domain. The Kyoto shoshidai was the chief shogunal official responsible for overseeing the affairs of the city.
