Plot

James Clavell's Shogun is set in the year 1600 A.D. An Englishman named John Blackthorne, who is Pilot-Major of the English ship Erasmus, is wrecked on the coast of Japan. He is rescued by Japanese locals and subsequently arrested by the fief's samurai, "Omi-san". Eventually he and his crew are released into the custody of the daimyo "Yabu-san", who in turn takes them to the senior warlord "Toranaga". Toranaga is curious about this foreigner and decides to use him to further his plans to unite Japan under his leadership.
