- 1757/7/26 A powerful typhoon strikes Tosa province.

- The Qianlong Emperor orders all ports in the provinces of Fujian, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu closed, leaving Guangzhou as the chief active southern port in China. (Russian trade at northern ports continues.)
- Chinese investiture envoys destined for Ryukyu runs adrift on coral, but all members of the embassy make it safely to shore on Kumejima, where they build a shrine to Tenpi (Matsu), Taoist patron goddess of sailors and of navigation, in thanks.
- Arriving in Shuri, the envoys stay for roughly seven months, during which time deputy envoy Chou Huang compiles the Ryûkyû-koku shiryaku.
