He was Jujutsu dojo master in Osaka before joining Shinsengumi. He commited Seppuku but saved by Shinohara Tainoshin. However, he died soon because of the wound. The reason of his Seppuku is believed to be accused by Hijikata Toshizo for having affair with a Ronin's widow. The Ronin was killed by Matsubara himself.
