I notice you often make the following mistakes in your articles:
 +
1. '(insert person's name) joined Shinsengumi'. You should say 'joined the Shinsengumi.'
 +
2. '(insert person's name) participated (or fought) Ikedaya affair'. You should say 'in the Ikedaya affair' or at battle of blablablah'.
 +
Those comes up often, but they're nothing big. Just to let you know. :-)  Baian 8:57, 12/15/06 (EST)

Revision as of 08:59, 15 December 2006

 • If anybody finds misspelling or grammatical errors on my posts, please correct them.

Dear Shikisoku,

I notice you are not using long marks (ô, û) for long vowels. You are either leaving them just "o" as in Goshu or using "ou." I glanced through and changed a few, but you would know much better than I whether they are short or long. If you cannot write in long vowels you might be able to copy from here Ô ô Û û or write a hyphen - after the vowel and ask for help.

Also, you make a list of han. However, the han kept on changing, so you should say what period the lists apply to. --Bethetsu 20:50, 26 September 2006 (PDT) ----

Check out 1569. Most of the dates are listed as 1614!!

I just don't know how to type Ô ô Û û. My keyboard don't have the keys.Can you tell me which keys?--Shikisoku 04:48, 27 September 2006 (PDT)

If you aren't interested in copying them and pasting them, you could directly type them using the following: & u circ ; etc...with the "u" becoming an "o" or so one when you need it. All of those letters, however, should be typed together. I space them ôut to show you what they really look like. Nagaeyari 05:40, 27 September 2006 (PDT)

Timeline format

In entries like this:

Did the second bullet point happen on the same day, or just the same month? the sub sections are for things that happened on the same day or month, so, for example, if the second thing happened the same month but not the same day, it should be formatted like this:

If three things happened in the same month, but you only have the day for one of them, it should look like this:

Here are examples of how it should look:

1569

1572

thanks for the assistance with all this!

Link format

Make sure when you create links with names like this: Ôtomo Yoshiaki, you create the link like this: Ôtomo Yoshiaki, because none of the article titles include the "long sound" (Ô), and the first part of the link I just put in goes to the page, the second part is what you see in the article. If you make the link like this: Ôtomo Yoshiaki, it will not link to the correct page.

Thanks!

Han Dates

Thanks for all your work on the provinces. But what is the date for the han? They did change some over time.--Bethetsu 06:00, 28 October 2006 (PDT)

Mainly Edo period. The details of indivisual Han will be on the new links.Satsuma han -> Satsuma han--Shikisoku 06:08, 28 October 2006 (PDT)

Yes, but didn't your source give some information like "Han at the end of the Edo period"? Han changed to tenryô and visa versa. I was thinking of writing somewhere (perhaps on the "Provinces of Japan" page) some explanation of the terms on the page (see the questions in the http://forums.samurai-archives.com/viewtopic.php?t=727). The explanation should give the date that the data reflects, if possible.

Another question, isn't 新座郡 of Musashi Niiza rather than Niikura, or did it change its name?

 • I think it's not good idea to put too many informations on one page.

If you want to add the details about indivisual han, it's better to make new links.

As for 新座郡, the name changed several times.I am not sure when 新座 was Niiza. When 新座郡 was admitted to Kita Adachi gun in Meiji, it was Niikura gun.--Shikisoku 04:40, 29 October 2006 (PST)

Bujutsu Task Force

I've created a page where you, msr.Iaidoka, and Rikoseishin can coordinate your efforts on the bujutsu articles: Bujutsu Task Force. I think this will be a more efficient way to coordinate your efforts, since all three of you have been working on them. --Kitsuno 20:51, 19 November 2006 (PST)

Kiyokawa Hachiro

What exactly does "he also received a Menkyo of Hokushin Itto Ryu at Genbukan" mean? Does it mean that he gained a license to teach, or was it just an award or certificate of achievement? --Kitsuno 10:12, 27 November 2006 (PST)

"Generally" the ranks of Bujutsu skills are
 • Inka 印可 (You can have your own dojo)
 • Menkyo 免許 (You can teach)
 • Mokuroku 目録
 • Kirigami 切紙

Every Ryu-ha has different names but above 4 ranks are used in most books to explain skills of bujutsu. Details of major Ryu-ha rank systems are http://homepage2.nifty.com/ryomado/Zakyo/ZKsinken/zakyo_sinken02-01.html (<-please copy/paste on your browser)--Shikisoku 16:39, 27 November 2006 (PST)

As long as you have spaces before the link and after the link, it will work automatically - I just fixed that link for you. Should I modify the article to indicate that he gained the right to teach? --Kitsuno 00:24, 28 November 2006 (PST)

I don't know because it is not only page that has a link to Menkyo. How about writing it on Menkyo page?--Shikisoku 01:46, 28 November 2006 (PST)
