Statue of Nakayama Aiko at Kameoka Shrine in Hirado

Nakayama Aiko was the wife of kugyô (court noble) Nakayama Tadayasu and a grandmother to Emperor Meiji.

The 11th daughter of Matsura Seizan, lord of Hirado han, she was married to kugyô Nakayama Tadayasu. Their daughter Nakayama Yoshiko then became a concubine to Emperor Kômei; their son succeeded Kômei to become the Meiji Emperor.
