Gorô left the Shinsengumi after the Battle of Koshu-Katsunuma and joined the Seikyotai but surrendered to Satsuma han.
He became a wealthy merchant in Hokkaido after the Meiji Restoration.
In 1892, while exploring Etorofu island, he fell from a bridge was accidentally killed when his rifle discharged as a result of the fall.
