Tokihisa served the Shimazu clan of Satsuma province. He defeated an attack by the Kimotsuki clan in 1573 and put down a rebellion of former Itô retainers in 1578. He acted as a hostage to Toyotomi Hideyoshi after the latter invaded Kyushu in 1587. He was afterwards installed at Miyanojô in Satsuma Province.
