- 1757/7/26 A powerful typhoon strikes Tosa province.

- The Qianlong Emperor orders all ports in the provinces of Fujian, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu closed, leaving Guangzhou as the chief active southern port in China.
- Chinese investiture envoys destined for Ryukyu runs adrift on coral, but all members of the embassy make it safely to shore on Kumejima, where they build a shrine to Tenpi (Matsu), Taoist patron goddess of sailors and of navigation, in thanks.
- Arriving in Shuri, the envoys stay for roughly seven months, during which time deputy envoy Chou Huang compiles the Ryûkyû-koku shiryaku.
