Sir Stamford Raffles was a British official best known for his role in the founding of Singapore and British Malaya.
From 1811 to 1816, he served as the British governor of the Dutch East Indies. After this, he returned to London with some one hundred cases of Asian objects, many of which are now in the collection of the British Museum.
