Kakinomoto no Hitomaro was a court noble and poet known for his poems in the Man'yôshû, and as one of the "36 Poetry Immortals" (Sanjûrokkasen).
Following his death, Kakinomoto was deified as a myôjin by imperial order. Toyotomi Hideyoshi is the only other historical figure to be granted myôjin status by imperial order.[1]
