Yoshinobu, a long-standing Matsudaira/Tokugawa retainer, held Hamamatsu for Tokugawa Ieyasu. During the Battle of Mikatagahara he gave his life so that his lord might escape the advancing Takeda army by rushing into their ranks pretending to be Ieyasu.
