I'm a bit confused about the date footnote - where does the "May 12" come in? Is that western, eastern, or what? There are 2 other dates given, but it isn't clear what it what.  --[[User:Shogun|Kitsuno]] 13:32, 2 October 2006 (PDT)

::Hm. And on the newly revised footnote, I am curious if it is unknown to scholarship whether he was using Gregorian or Julian, or if it is simply unknown to us here at S-A based on the sources we've looked at. [[User:LordAmeth|LordAmeth]] 03:38, 11 July 2007 (PDT)

::It is not clear in the source I used for the statement-- an excerpt in ''They Came to Japan'' from a letter Adams wrote his wife. Did you read ''Samurai William''? He might discuss the date problem there since presumably the date problem would have come up handing the materials.

Date & Footnote Question

I'm a bit confused about the date footnote - where does the "May 12" come in? Is that western, eastern, or what? There are 2 other dates given, but it isn't clear what it what. --Kitsuno 13:32, 2 October 2006 (PDT)

Hm. And on the newly revised footnote, I am curious if it is unknown to scholarship whether he was using Gregorian or Julian, or if it is simply unknown to us here at S-A based on the sources we've looked at. LordAmeth 03:38, 11 July 2007 (PDT)
It is not clear in the source I used for the statement-- an excerpt in They Came to Japan from a letter Adams wrote his wife. Did you read Samurai William? He might discuss the date problem there since presumably the date problem would have come up handing the materials.
If you read it, you could add it to the page as "Other Reading," or, better still, write some more and add the book as a source.--Bethetsu 18:33, 11 July 2007 (PDT)
