Antonio Fontanesi was an Italian oil painter who taught painting at the Technical Art School (kôbu bijutsu gakkô) in Tokyo beginning in 1876. He had a significant impact on the early development of yôga (Western-style painting) in Japan, teaching students such as Yamamoto Hôsui.

He taught in the academic style standard in much of Europe at the time, focusing on anatomy and geometry, and on drawing from life or from plaster models.
