The Yungang Caves or Yungang Grottoes are a set of ancient Buddhist cave temples near [[Datong]] in [[Shanxi province]], China. One of the five largest Buddhist cave complexes in China, they are today recognized as a [[World Heritage Site]].

Dating to the late 5th century, the caves were originally established by the priest-monk Tan-yao at the request of [[Emperor Wencheng of Northern Wei]].
