Robert Bruce Van Valkenburgh served as the United States of America's Resident Minister in Japan from 1866 to 1869.

He succeeded Robert H. Pruyn (with US legation secretary Anton L.C. Portman serving as interim minister) in 1866. The following year, he signed a temporary Treaty of Friendship between Japan and the Kingdom of Hawai'i on behalf of the kingdom.

In 1869, he was succeeded as Resident Minister by Charles DeLong.
