Hori Takayuki was an interpreter from [[Nagasaki]] who accompanied a group of eighteen [[Satsuma students|young men]] from [[Satsuma han]] who in [[1865]] snuck out of the country in order to study in Europe.
Hori traveled around Great Britain and Europe with [[Niiro Hisanobu]] and [[Godai Tomoatsu]], the leaders of the student group, in order to survey conditions of government, technology, etc. Along with [[Iwashita Michihira]] and others, he was later a member of a Satsuma delegation to the [[1867 Paris World's Fair]].
