Tenchô setsu was a holiday established in 1868 as a national holiday in honor of the birthday of the Meiji Emperor.
Stripped of its tennôsei / Emperor Cult connotations in the postwar period, the day continues to be a national holiday, albeit under the name "Culture Day" (bunka no hi).
