Timeline of 1523
- 1523/3 Asai Sukemasa expels his master Kyôgoku Takakiyo.(Ômi)
- 1523/4 Ningbo Incident - Ôuchi and Hosokawa clan tribute missions, led by Sôsetsu and Song Suqing, respectively, arrive in China at the same time. The two (labeled as wakô in some accounts) clash in the Chinese port of Ningbo. As a result, the Ningbo and Fuzhou port offices are closed, leaving the one in Guangzhou the only one open to receive foreign ships and manage tribute and trade.
