Yoritomo was born as the third son of Minamoto Yoshitomo.
1159, Yoshitomo and his sons involved the Heiji Rebellion, but they were defeated by Taira Kiyomori and had to leave Kyoto. On the way to Eastern region, Yoritomo astrayed from them and was captured in Mino.
