Asuka-dera

• Japanese: 飛鳥寺 (Asuka dera)

Asuka-dera, established in the 6th century, was the first full-scale Buddhist temple in Japan.

Magatama and other ritual objects were buried with the foundation stones; scholars today take this as indicative of the transitional period in Japanese religion taking place at that time.
