Takaaki was the son of Tamura Yoshiaki. Surrounded by enemies on all sides, he allied himself with the Date clan, and married a daughter of Date Tanemune. He was talented in matters of both strategy and diplomacy, and rendered the Date clan valuable service over the years, serving in campaigns against the Satake clan and Ashina clan. His son Kiyoaki served the Date as well, and his granddaugter would marry Date Masamune.
