Shôdai-yaki is a style of ceramics produced in Higo province (Kumamoto prefecture) in the 17th to early 20th centuries. Iron and ash-straw glazes result in a distinctive aesthetic.
The style was revived by mingei artists in 1973 and some eight kilns produce Shôdai wares today.
