The Shimoda bugyô, or Shimoda Magistrate, was a [[Tokugawa shogunate]] official who oversaw the administration of the port city of [[Shimoda]], on the [[Izu peninsula]]. Though the position was first established in [[1616]], it gained prominence after the opening of Shimoda to Western ships in the 1850s.
[[Isawa Masayoshi]] was named ''Shimoda bugyô'' in [[1854]] following the signing of the [[Convention of Kanagawa]] which opened the port to American sailors;<ref>Ishin Shiryô Kôyô 維新史料綱要, vol 1 (1937), 513, 568, 575.</ref> [[Tsuzuki Mineshige]] held the post concurrently.
