Zeshin played a role in the founding of the Japan Lacquerware Artists Society (''Nihon shikkô kai''), the ''[[Ryuchikai|Ryûchikai]]'' (Dragon Pond Society), and the Oriental Art Society (''[[Toyo Kaigakai|Tôyô Kaigakai]]'').
