Ro Sosetsu

Ro Sôsetsu was a Nagasaki-based Chinese language interpreter. He is known for his role in making Chinese texts on European sciences available to Japanese scholars, and for his own writings, such as Nagasaki senmin den ("Lives of Past People of Nagasaki"), which was later edited and expanded by his son Ro Senri.
