Miyara dunchi is a Ryukyuan aristocratic home located on Ishigaki Island. It was built in 1819 to serve as the mansion for the Miyara peechin tôen, the lead official appointed by the Ryukyuan royal court to administer/govern the Yaeyama Islands.
The mansion was designed in emulation of the aristocratic mansions of Shuri, the royal capital, in violation of standard practice; though the royal court ordered that it be torn down for this reason, it never was. The mansion also features an aristocratic garden with large stones.
The interiors of the mansion were decorated in part by Ishigaki painter Kyûna Anshin.[1]
The Miyara family's private collection of historical documents is today held by the University of the Ryukyus.
