Sadakatsu was a son of [[Hisamatsu Toshikatsu|Hisamatsu Sado no kami Toshikatsu]] and [[Tokugawa Ieyasu|Tokugawa Ieyasu's]] half-brother by virtue of sharing the same mother. After the [[Sekigahara Campaign]] ([[1600]]), Sadakatsu was given Kakegawa in [[Totomi province|Tôtômi province]] (recently vacated by [[Yamanouchi Kazutoyo]]). In [[1617]] he was transferred to Kuwana in [[Ise province]]. Three years later, he was established at Nagashima (also in Ise).
