*''Japanese'': 元服 ''(genpuku)''

''Genpuku'' was the traditional coming-of-age ceremony for members of the samurai class.

It marked the transition of a boy (or "youth", ''[[wakashu|wakashû]]'') into being considered an adult man in broader society. The ''genpuku'' ceremony chiefly involved a change of clothes and hairstyle, and in certain periods, the young man would receive his first ''[[eboshi]]'' court cap, sword, and suit of armor.<ref>"Sadamune, Sword Blade," gallery labels, LACMA.[https://www.flickr.com/photos/toranosuke/15693234304/sizes/h/]</ref>
