Overview

Abe no Sadatô was the second son of Abe no Yoritoki. His older brother was Abe no Munetô. Because Mutsu province was so removed from the capital, the Abe clan was able to get away with not paying taxes, being expansionistic, and generally rebellious against the Imperial court.

The Imperial court finally sent Minamoto no Yoriyoshi and Minamoto no Yoshiie in 1051 to hold the Abe clan accountable. This began the Former Nine Years War, which lasted from 1051 to 1062.

Abe no Sadatô in the Mutsu Waki

Mutsuwaki 陸奥話記 chronicles the Former Nine Years War[1]
