1183/3 Minamoto no Yoritomo and Kiso no Yoshinaka reach an agreement and join forces against the Taira.
1183/5/11 Battle of Kurikara - Minamoto no Yoshinaka defeats Taira no Tomomori and Taira no Koremori.
1183/7/21 Minamoto no Yoshinaka seizes Kyoto; the Taira mansions at Rokuhara and Nishi-hachijô are destroyed.
1183/7/25 Taira forces flee west, along with Emperor Antoku and Kenreimon'in.
1183/9 Yoshinaka is defeated by Taira forces at the battle of Mizushima.

The brother of Emperor Antoku takes the throne as Emperor Go-Toba; sources differ on whether Antoku abdicated at this time, or if the two reigns overlap, with Go-Toba ruling in Kyoto, and Antoku in flight to the south.
