Suma-no-miya was the third daughter of Emperor Kômei; her mother was Horikawa Motoko. Born on 1859/3/22, she is known for imperial court efforts the following year to have her betrothed to Shogun Tokugawa Iemochi in place of the emperor's younger sister Kazunomiya. She sadly died the following year, at the age of two.
