  • Japanese: 八文字屋 (Hachimonji-ya)

The Hachimonji-ya (lit. "Figure 8 Shop") was a Kyoto-based publisher known for a particular sub-genre of ukiyo-zôshi publications. This sub-genre was so popular, and/or so distinctive, that it has come to be known as Hachimonji-ya-bon ("Hachimonji-ya books"), after the name of the publisher.
