Tejima Seiichi was curator at the Tokyo Educational Museum in the 1880s. After meeting Edward Sylvester Morse, Tejima helped assemble in 1886 a collection of 36 Okinawan artifacts to donate to Boston museums, filling a gap in Morse's own collection. The following year, he played a role in the donation by Japan's Ministry of Education of several dozen Japanese & Okinawan artifacts to the Smithsonian Institution.
