Kamiya Sôtan was a [[Hakata]]-based merchant and prominent [[tea culture|tea master]] who was also active in [[Sakai]]. He was a notable associate of [[Toyotomi Hideyoshi]] and [[Sen no Rikyu|Sen no Rikyû]], participating in a number of tea gatherings with them both in [[Kyushu]] and in the [[Kinai]].
