Piram Confucian School
The Piram Confucian School was a Confucian academy located in Jangseong, Korea. It was one of only 47 such schools in all of Korea to survive reforms in the 1860s-1870s headed by the Taewongun, who closed most Confucian academies as part of efforts to rapidly modernize Korea.
The school was established in memory of Kim Inhu (1510-1560), a Confucian scholar who had been the personal tutor to King Injong. After Injong died young, Kim declined to serve under his successor, King Myeongjong, citing a principled devotion to the idea that a man should serve only one king. Kim then returned to Jangseong, where he taught more privately for the rest of his life.
