The Fukubara were descended from a younger son of Môri Motoharu (head of the Môri in the mid-late 14th Century). During the Sengoku Period they became one of the most influential of the Môri retainer houses, with three generations holding a special place in the Môri heirarchy: Fukubara Sadatoshi, Fukubara Motoyoshi, and Fukubara Hirotoshi.
