Kanna Kenwa was a son-in-law of King (later, Marquis) Shô Tai of the Ryûkyû Kingdom, and an admiral in the Imperial Japanese Navy.

Kenwa married Shô Tai's daughter Masako.[1]

He also served in the Imperial Japanese Navy, both as captain of the ship Katori which carried Crown Prince Hirohito on his first tour to Europe in 1921, and later as an admiral, visiting Hawai'i in 1927.[2]
