  • Japanese: 東坊城 聡長 (Higashiboujou Tokinaga)

Higashibôjô Tokinaga was a court noble and imperial court official who served as buke tensô and buke tensô kasei (the court's liaison with the Tokugawa shogunate) on-and-off numerous times throughout the 1840s-50s, often alternating in these positions with court noble Bôjô Toshiaki.

After requesting permission to retire and being rebuffed many times, Tokinaga was finally granted permission to retire on 1858/3/17.[1] The following year, the emperor ordered Tokinaga confined to his home in perpetuity.[2]
