Tokugawa Munekatsu was the 8th head of the Owari Tokugawa clan. Born Matsudaira Yoshiatsu, heir to the Mino Takasu Matsudaira branch family (30,000 koku), he became head of that family before, on 1739/1/13, being named head of the Owari Tokugawa clan, succeeding Tokugawa Muneharu. Muneharu, taking responsibility for a crime, was forced to retire that same day, and was placed under house arrest.
