Fenggan, known as Bukan in Japanese, was a legendary Ch'an (Zen) monk often depicted in Zen paintings sleeping with a tiger he has befriended.
Based at the temple Guoqing-si on Mt. Tiantai, he is also often depicted alongside Hanshan and Shide (J: Kanzan and Jittoku).
