Sugi Kuhee was a Kamigata kabuki actor of the Genroku period, specializing in playing the roles of older women (such an actor was called a kashagata). He is known as one of the chief authors of the Yakusha rongo ("Actors' Analects"), and as one of the teachers of Sakata Tôjûrô I.
