Rin'ami was a prominent renga poet and playwright of the late 14th century, who enjoyed a position at the court of Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu and influence as a cultural tastemaker.

He is known for composing the text of the two kusemai dance-dramas Tôgoku kudari (aka Kaidô kudari) and Saikoku kudari. Both were written specifically for the Yamato sarugaku repertoire, with the latter featuring music by Kan'ami.
