He served in the Kyushu Campaign and was afterwards given a large fief in Chikugo at Kurume. During the Sekigahara Campaign he commanded troops for the 'western army' and fought under Tachibana Muneshige at Ôtsu castle. After the battle he was deprived of his Chikugo holdings and was given a small fief in Nagato province. He had become a Christian around 1587 and was baptized as 'Simon'. He was married to Ôtomo Sorin's Christian daughter, Maxentia.
