Asphalt

Asphalt was used by the Jomon people to secure arrowheads to the shaft. The Jomon people were required to travel great distances to find the material, as it was only located in northwestern Honshu[1]. Other purposes (during the Jomon period) include restoring sherd pieces to original form (such as fixing a pot or other clay object) and caulking boats[2]
