Môri Takasue was the 8th Edo period lord of Saiki han in Bungo province. He was known as a scholar-daimyô, and in 1781 he established the "Saiki bunko," a library or archive of books and documents, within the grounds of Saiki castle. The 80,000 or so books in this collection were chiefly Chinese works, but also included books on medicine, science, Dutch Studies, and other subjects.
