Nejime Shigetake was a son of Nejime Kiyotoshi. He was the 16th head of his family and was at first a retainer of the Kimotsuki of Ôsumi (Shigetake's Nejime castle being located in that province). He later became a retainer of Shimazu Yoshihisa and was an active in various economic development projects.
