- A bronze bell is cast by a Japanese metalworker as an offering to the Kingdom of Ryûkyû. This bell will later be installed in the Gokoku-ji, and taken by Commodore Matthew Perry back to Annapolis in 1853.
- A number of Korean sailors are cast ashore on Kumejima; their accounts of Kumejima customs, etc. remain extant today.
