Kondô Shûsuke was the third successor of Tennen Rishin-ryû. He opened the Shieikan dôjô in the Ichigaya neighborhood of Edo in 1839. In 1849, he adopted his pupil Miyagawa Katsugorô who later became the Shinsengumi commander Kondô Isami.
