Sôma Kazue was the son of [[Funabashi Heihachiro|Funabashi Heihachirô]] of Kasama han in [[Hitachi province]].  He joined the [[Shinsengumi]] in the 10th month of [[1867]].

When [[Kondo Isami|Kondô Isami]] was captured in [[Nagareyama]], he and [[Nomura Risaburo|Nomura Risaburô]] accompanied as valets and were imprisoned.

he brought a letter from [[Matsunami Gonnojo]] to Itabashi where Kondo was .

But he was not allowed to see Kondo and was imprisoned.

He met [[Nomura Risaburo]] there.

They were released after Kondô was executed and they headed to
